A great way to teaching children about explosives, and their danger by incorporating Social Studies as well - Halifax Explosion.

Hello friends,
Here are the activities that we are going to have for our discovery center:
-Fireworks explanation and art project (Katie)
-Books about fire, its importance etc
-Experiments candle and jar/ balloons in hot and cold water
-Writing activity "I am a fire" (we need parameters so the students know what they have to include)
-Small hands on activities - magnifying glass etc
-Sernairo game - out of these objects what would you use to start a fire and why
-Fire video - question sheet
-Solar oven
-Perhaps global warming?? Connect with forest fires or something???

That is what we have so far folks, also remember to bring all art supplies to the school so we can really get down and dirty with it!!

Hello boys and girls. When we are doing our lesson plans we should keep these things in mind.

1) When or how do the lessons becoming intergrated with other subjects.
2) Formative evaluation at the end of our unit.
3) Summative evaluation throughout the unit.

Could you also please tell me the specifics of what you are teaching so I am compile a proper unit introduction.

  • Hey Boys and Girls!
This is it - we need to hit up this fire, fuel and combustion hard!
    Love you all,
    Keddy

Here is a website to make the solar oven that Shaunda was talking about in class. This would be neat to feature on our bored to interest students.
Also as I was researching the Grade 5 curriculum, I noticed many experiments involving heat that we could use as the demonstration.
